Nightlife in Spain

No matter how hot it gets during the day, the nights are guaranteed to be pleasant and cool.  After sundown, the temperature usually drops down to the mid to lower seventies. And since it never (and I mean never) rains in the summer, every night is a perfect night to enjoy Granada’s nightlife.

Starting around 8pm until midnight or 1am you can go “tapa hopping” which is like bar hopping but with the added bonus of free tapas! The tapas bars are almost always buzzing with activity. And its a great way to have fun, hang out with friends, have a few drinks and get a free dinner at the same time.

If you’re in the mood for a more relaxing, laid back atmosphere, you can hang out in one of the teterías (Arabic tea houses) or lounge in a hookah bar. These places are usually open well into the night and are a frequent hang-out place for both Spanish and American students.

After the tapas bars and tea houses close (around midnight or 2am), you can head to a discoteca (nightclub). This is when the party starts getting going. Spaniards, and especially Granaínos love to party and are definitely night owls. We often stay up partying until 7 or 8 in the morning. Then we’ll grab some churros con chocolate for breakfast to finish off the night before going to bed around 9am. The most popular nightclubs in Granada are Granada 10 which is downtown, Mae West which is in Neptuno Mall, and El Camborio which is in the Sacromonte.

If, on any given night, you’re in the mood for a more laid back atmosphere where you can have a good conversation, head to one of Granada’s pubs or coctelerías (cocktail lounges). There’s a really good one downtown on Gran Vía right next to the Cathedral.
