Being on the southern coast of Andalusia puts Granada at a stone’s throw from Morocco. Just hop one of the many ferries from one of the seaports along the Andalusian coast and within just a couple hours you’ll be transported to the exotic continent of Africa.
Your first stop will probably be the port city of Tangier. Tangier is a fascinating Moroccan city to visit with all the fascination you’d expect from a Muslim country in Africa; a sense of exotic mystery, interesting history, beautiful vistas, unspoiled beaches, and friendly people.
Tangier is located in northern Morocco and is separated from Spain by the Strait of Gibraltar which is just 20 miles wide.
Of course, no trip to Morocco would be complete without a Sahara Desert safari on camel-back.
Want to visit Africa while enjoying the safety, comfort and familiarity of Spain? You can! Spain has two territories on the African coast: Ceuta and Melilla. These cities are a great base from which to begin your travels in Morocco. The citizens of Ceuta and Melilla are primarily Spaniards and speak Spanish, of course. But step outside the city limits and you find yourself in the heart of Morocco.
If you think your time in Spain might include a trip to Morocco or any other country outside of Spain, be sure to talk to your physician who will likely recommend you get some shots before you leave.
