Vosotros

OK, we might as well get this one out of the way first. A lot of people freak out about the vosotros form but it’s actually super easy to use once you learn the simple rule.

Vosotros is the informal second person plural. In other words, it’s like saying “you guys” or, if you’re from the South, “y’all.” To use the vosotros form, simply take the infinitive (the basic, unconjugated root verb). If it’s an ar verb, change the ar to áis (pronounced like the English word “ice”). For er verbs, change the er to éis (pronounced like the English word “ace”. The easiest ones are the ir verbs. Just change the ir to ís (pronounced like “east” without the “t” on the end). Here are a few examples.

hablar -> habláis

tener -> tenéis

venir -> venís

That’s all there is to it. See? That wasn’t so bad. :) And unlike with the Ustedes form, there’s no confusion with the third person plural (i.e. theyellos). So, there’s no need to use the actual word “vosotros.” Here’s an example of how you might use it:

Tenéis que venir a Granada porque lo vais a pasar muy bien. (You [guys] have to come to Granada because you’re going to have a great time).
